The old Sasi recognized Kreševo as a place rich in various ores

History of Kreševo is related to ores and metal processing, and this tradition is deeply rooted in the local population. Numerous localities have become veritable treasure trove of mineralogical resources. It is no wonder that Kreševo hosts the largest Fair of minerals, rocks, precious and semi-precious stones in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Findings of citrine

Since ancient time, citrine has been valued as a gift from the sun. As Mercury's stone, the stone of the Messenger God, it contains pure sunlight in it. In ancient Greece, it was carried against snake toxins and bad thoughts. The Romans began to make beautiful jewelry out of citrine. It suddenly became popular in the age of romanticism. Until the 16th century, "Citrine" was a common term for all yellow stones, including topaz. It was seen as trader's stone. It was considered it improves business communication, increases sales, attracts money and business so citrine was placed in a cash register, wallet or with accounts to increase assets. Due to the appearance of artificial Citrine obtained by thermal treatment of Amethyst, the natural transparent Citrine with golden tones is especially appreciated and can be found in Kreševo.

Impressive pits and caves

If you want to spend an educational and fun day underground, pits and caves in Kreševo are the right place for you. Oberska cave is particularly interesting, it is located above the village of Vranci, two kilometers away from our hotel. It is located on the left bank of the Kostajnica stream. The entrance to the cave is located at 740 meters above sea level. From the Middle Ages until the 1960s, this cave was used for the exploitation of mercury ore and barite. The Kreševo association “Kreševski citrin” succeeded in revitalizing and opening the Ober cave to the public.
